Avoid Getting Ripped Off
Its no fun when you have a software or hardware malfunction and you find out
you have no warranty or a vendor has installed illegal copies of software that
renders your system non functional.
How to avoid this can be a little easier if you follow these few precautions
below
1) Ask for a Warranty
2) Ask for a Receipt
(paying cash may be cheaper at first, but NO Warranty or Receipt may cost you
more later)
3) Do some Research when Purchasing a Computer
, Software or Hardware
With Costs, ring around, check the web, read Saturday & Sundays newspaper for
specials, an example at the moment (24th May 2010) MCG Computers have Towers
with 500gig hard drive , DVD Burner , 2 gig of Ram WARRANTY for
$349 perfect for the
average household user for internet, why pay $1000 +, check out the link below

Here are some Computer Stores Below , Just CLICK the LINK

4) Does a system suit my needs?
The above mentioned Computer is great for the average user however may not suit
a user who needs heavy graphics work , DVD editing etc , the system above MIGHT
still be able to do these tasks but a lot slower , so pick a system that will
suit your needs ( RESEARCH )
4) MICROSOFT Software, ask for Certificate of Authentication.
SOME vendors will use the same Certificate of Authentication of an operating
system several times to activate your copy of Windows when a copy might only be
licensed for 1 computer
eg: Microsoft Windows 98 ,
Millennium , NT , XP , Vista , Windows 7 and Microsoft
OFFICE .
Best idea is to have a good read of this link below by Microsoft for
details how to tell if your copy is genuine and how to report a vendor who has
done the wrong thing .

5) Dangers of Remote Access
Software
Remote Access Software can be used to gain access to your computer by someone
else with the same software and access privileges they may have set up on your
computer or given YOU instructions to set it up on your computer.
This can be quite beneficial if
the vendor is legitimate , and what I mean by that is SOME vendors COULD
potentially access your computer WITHOUT your permission and COULD create a
problem with your computer via this software and then of course you would ring
this person up and ask to have this problem fixed.
Now I am not saying this happens
, but these are the risks involved , an after thought is how do computer
repairers make their money ( by fixing your computer )
HINT:
Do Not allow full access privileges,
limit the access so you must authorize them to access your computer on an
individual basis, this will not stop unscrupulous vendors, but it will
give you a chance to keep an eye on things
I will be writing as many articles as I can to help as much as possible , if I
can see or hear a problem occurring on a regular basis I will investigate and
post the solution in the computer help section.
Further help can be found at the
Kalbarri Telecentre with courses that may be run throughout the year.
