General Family Fishing

For families the best place to fish in Kalbarri is between the Rivermouth (Chinamans) and anywhere up the River.

What you might catch within this area

Black Bream can be caught from the Rivermouth all the way to Murchison House Station (approx 15km) , you should always try fishing for Bream around structure (Jetty , Overhangs) , best baits for Black Bream are  Boney Herring , River Prawns and Squid.
Black Bream MINIMUM Size is 25cm

Mulloway can also be caught from the Rivermouth all the way to Murchison House Station (approx 15km) , there is no special way to fish for the Murchison River Mulloway as the average size of these Mulloway (Soapies) are about 35-45cm , baits to use are Squid , Mullet and Boney Herring.
Mulloway MINIMUM Size is 50cm

Whiting are caught in the shallows of the river , sometimes they are right at your feet , best spots to try for Whiting is around the Kalbarri Boat Hire shallows with a bit of Bloodworm as bait on a small hook and light line

Mud Crabs and Blue Manna Crabs can generally be caught throughout the lower reaches of the Murchison River , both species do favour structure (Jetties & Pens).
baits to use for both species include oily fish frames / heads with the likes of Tuna and Mullet , spleen is also a favorite with crabs as a bait.
Mud Crab MINIMUM Size is 150mm & only 5 Mud Crabs per person

Blue Manna Crab MINIMUM Size is 127mm & only 10 Blue Manna Crabs per person permitted or 20 per Boat if 2 or more persons onboard , you are only allowed 10 nets per person or 10 per boat
