Local monthly comp 23rd August 2008
Competition Report
The river section fished very well again this month with a variety
of species weighed in.
Gary Ivey had 2 bream, Cheryl Eley had 3 and Di Stewart showed us 4
live bream but were
not good enough
to beat Brett Bain who doubled everyone else’s points with his bag
of
8 fish which included 4 live bream and 2 tailor and 2 whiting. No
juniors this month
The beach section had good mulloway and snapper with Lou Palamara’s
snapper weighing
in at 2.75kg
together with his whiting that won the Mystery Fish for the day!
Karen Hartig’s big 4.1kg snapper was commendable from the beach,
while Ashley
Van Versen won the section with a couple of very respectable
mulloway.
Craig Gibson went south down the cliffs in his under 7.5m boat
“Jojo” scoring a great catch of
5 fish including this big baldchin weighing in at 4.55kg to be the
biggest for the year so far as well as the biggest skippy for the
year at 1.55kgs.

Craig’s 4.55kg
baldie
New member Graeme Black was out with Paul Maindok aboard his 6.5m
“Southwind”.
Fishing a long way north in perfect conditions scored double headers
of cobia,
snapper, red-throat emperor and a very nice red emperor for Paul.
It may look all Paul’s way but Graeme won the under 7.5m boat
section with his 7 fish
for a total
weight of 21.8kgs. An impressive catch Graeme.

Paul’s cobia and red
emperor. The red emperor won Paul the RSL Meritorious award.
Only one boat in the over 7.5m section, and scoring for the first
time in the over 7.5m section, was
Laurie Malton aboard his new boat “Bamba Zonke 2”. With son Jared
back from school,
Sue back from the mines and Murray Rantal aboard they took advantage
of the good
weather, joining “Southwind” up north of Kalbarri.
Fishing in close to shore before the strong easterly died, they had
a lot of fun with
samson fish in the shallow water, with the fish getting bigger each
time! Moving offshore
when the wind dropped, Sue, Murray and Laurie landed some baldchin,
snapper, and dhufish,
only Jared being unlucky not to pick up
one of the big ones, but still winning the junior section
with his bag of 5 fish which included a small dhuie and sambo.
Laurie had the biggest snapper for the year so far, a 5.2kg fish.

Sue had a great day, landing 4 fish
Jared with part of his catch and samson fish

Part of
Laurie’s catch with his biggest for the year 5.2kg snapper.
Murray’s 8.15kg dhuie and 14.2kg samson
fish. The sambo is also the biggest for the year.
Murray’s catch of 3 fish was good enough to win him
the section.
“Mug of the Day” went to Garry Ivey for hooking and landing a large
spoon
while fishing in the river?
Laurie Malton won the restaurant draw and Sandy Smith picked up the
$50.00 worth of scratchies.
Next event is a monthly comp on the 20th September, followed by the
very popular
Kids Whiting Competition on both Thursdays of the school holidays 2nd
& 9th October.
